The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has been rapidly advancing through the East Ghouta region of Damascus recently, capturing several areas that were under the control of Jaysh Al-Islam.

Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Army scored another important advance when their soldiers finally broke-through Jaysh Al-Islam’s main line of defense Al-Shifouniyah, forcing them to ultimately retreat in order to avoid being overrun.

The loss of Al-Shifouniyah could not come at a worse time for Jaysh Al-Islam, as their main supply route from Douma has ultimately been cutoff by the Syrian Arab Army.

Making matters worse for Jaysh Al-Islam, the Syrian Arab Army has been pushing to split the East Ghouta region in half, which is similar to their east Aleppo offensive that was carried out last Winter.

If the Syrian Army is successful in splitting the East Ghouta into two pockets, Jaysh Al-Islam will be in a world of trouble in the northern corridor of this farming region.
