(AhlulBayt News Agency) - About 700 French citizens fighting on the side of the terrorist group ISIS in Syria and Iraq, said the head of the coordination group on the fight against terrorism (UCLAT) in France loïc Garnier.
"It is estimated that the number of French residents in this area is estimated at 700, and, presumably, the deceased’s fellow — 232" — said in an interview with the newspaper Figaro Garnier.
He also noted that the number of foreigners included in the ranks of ISIS in the middle East in 2015, was about 30 thousand. Now this figure has dropped to 12 thousand people. Thus, according to Garnier, among them there are 3,000 Europeans.
"Even despite the fact that Belgium is the most represented in relation to the population of the country, France remains the main country contributing military contingent of the entire European Union," added Garnier.
As notes the edition, according to Garnier, in France there are about 200 people who have returned from places of military operations in the middle East and fought there on the side of the terrorists.
In mid-December, the French Parliament approved the extension of state of emergency in the country until July 2017 due to the continued threat of terrorist attacks. Emergency mode was introduced in France by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on the proposal of President Francois Hollande after the terrorist attacks on November 13 last year.
ISIS terrorist group is today one of the main threats to global security. In three years, the terrorists managed to capture large areas of Iraq and Syria, some of which managed to repulse in recent months.
