Aerial strikes against Syrian troops proves US not going to stop supporting terrorists: Iranian MP

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said recent US aerial strikes against Syrian troops near the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor proved that Washington is not willing to abandon its support for terrorists.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said recent US aerial strikes against Syrian troops near the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor proved that Washington is not willing to abandon its support for terrorists.

Boroujerdi underlined that a recent truce agreement in Syria brokered by the US and Russia was “another test” for Washington.

He further pointed to the bombing of the Syrian Army forces near Deir ez-Zor on Saturday, which led to the deaths of at least 90 Syrian troops, and said the raid once again proved that the Americans do not respect any agreement that leads to fighting the terrorists in Syria.

If the US had been honest about its claims on counterterrorism, it would not have attacked the positions of the Syrian troops, the Iranian parliamentarian stated.

The Syrian truce, which came into effect on September 12, did not apply to the terrorist groups of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, the group formerly known as al-Nusra Front that changed its name in July.

However, under the pretext of the fight against the terrorists, the US-led coalition launched airstrikes against Syrian troops on Saturday and killed over 90 soldiers and injured 100 others. Russia said the attacks were performed by two F-16 fighter jets and two A-10 support aircraft.

The Syrian General Command called the bombing a “serious and blatant aggression” against Syrian forces, and said it was “conclusive evidence” that the US and its allies support Daesh militants.
