(AhlulBayt News Agency) - More than 1,500 Yezidi survivors of ISIS captivity will be sent abroad for medical treatment.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), in cooperation with the German government and international NGOs, has previously deployed scores of Yezidi women and children to Germany to help them recover from the physical and psychological issues that IS caused while holding them as sex slaves and prisoners.
This time, nearly 1,600 Yezidi survivors will be provided with the necessary treatments in Sweden, confirmed by Mahma Khalil, the mayor of the predominantly Yezidi town of Sinjar.
He also called on the international community to provide Health centres in Sinjar with further medical supplies.
Sinjar was overrun by IS in August 2014 when the extremist group massacred thousands of Yezidi people and abducted thousands more to trade them as sex slaves in the areas under its control.
From nearly 5,000 Yezidi captives, up to 1,500 have so far been rescued from the grip of terrorists, with most of them suffering from psychological issues after being subject to inhuman treatments under terrorists' rule.
