(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A video clip, which was broadcasted in Youtube on January 30, raised the rage of intellectuals and citizens in the region. The clip which lasts for two minutes and 37 seconds shows military officers stating sectarian comments which offend the society while they were roaming in their armed vehicle through Awamyia streets, a town in Qatif Province.
After this clip was broadcasted, many community leaders have issued strong statements.
Sheikh Abdul Karim Al-Hubail condemned the act in the clip in Friday sermon in Alabbas Mosque in Rab'aia on January 31 saying “these abuses reveal the sectarian trend which dominates the region”. He also considered broadcasting the clip as a crime, demanding the government to apologize to people of Qatif and not only prosecute the offenders.
Sheikh Hasan Al-Saffar denounced in Friday’s sermon on January 31 in Qatif on the humiliating act by saying “there are a lot of undocumented abuses against people in Qatif including clergy at checkpoints. This documented clip is considered as a proof of violation which committed by security officials who supposed to protect citizens”. Al-Saffar criticized the silence of the officials to condemn this act and said “people are suffered from abuses for more than two years because of indulgence in taking strict measures in order not to repeat such practices”. He added that “this clip should be a motivation to initiate national movement which can condemn repeated violations”.
Other writers including Jafar Alshayeb, muner Alnemer, Husain Al Elq and Imtithal Abo Alsoud have raised this issue in local newspapers and websites.
People, in social networking sites including Twitter and Youtube denounced this action in which some activists create hashtaq under the title Assaker Awwamiya (military officers) where Sunnis and Shiites criticize the violations which committed by military officers.
It is worth mentioning that since the protests, which took place in 2011, there are many security forces checkpoints at the entrances of Awamiya under the pretext of protecting citizens and the region from troublemakers.
