Iraqi Political Leader Congratulates Imam Khamenei, Rouhani on High Turnout

Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar al-Hakim in separate messages to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and Iran's President-elect Hassan Rouhani felicitated the high turnout of the Iranian people in the country's presidential election on June 14.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Hakim sent his separate messages to Imam Khamenei and the country's president-elect on Monday. 

"I congratulate you on the great epic created by the Iranian nation with their large turnout in the (country's) presidential election," part of Hakim's message to Ayatollah Khamenei read. 

"I seize this opportunity to underline that the Islamic Republic is playing a pioneering role in consolidating opportunities for dialogue, understanding and expansion of joint cooperation among the world countries in a bid to materialize security and stability…," Hakim said in his message to Rouhani. 

Rouhani won Iran's presidential election on Friday with over 50% of the votes cast in his favor. 

Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced Saturday evening that from a total number of 36,704,156 ballots cast in Iran's 11th presidential election, Rouhani won 18,613,329 votes while his main rival Mohammad Qalibaf could secure only 6,077,292 votes.
