(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev underlined the need for confronting Islamophobia.Addressing the opening ceremony of an ECO Summit in Baku on Tuesday, he said the group’s member countries that are all Muslims should promote Islam as a religion of peace and act against the wave of Islamophobia in the world.He said the growing trend of Islamophobia in some countries of the world and desecration of Islamic sanctities have worried and enraged all Muslim countries.“We are concerned over the rise of Islamophobic tendencies, insult of Islamic holies in some countries”, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said making a keynote speech at the 12th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Baku, APA reports.“Hence, the main responsibility of ECO member countries should be making efforts to prevent distortion of the image of Islam.”Elsewhere in his remarks, Aliyev hailed the political cooperation among member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).The organization was established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey and was later joined by countries like the Azerbaijan Republic, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. /129
