(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Pro-Palestinian organizations, both Palestinian and German, protested, in Iserlohn, against the former PM Ehud Olmert's visit, demanding to send him to The Hague to stand trial for war crimes instead.
The protestors waved the Palestinian flag and photos of Palestinians killed during the 2008 Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Member of the union of Palestinian community in Germany, Ali al-Hila, said in a statement that the demonstrations came as a response to the “cruel crimes" that Olmert committed against the Palestinians during his tenure as prime minister of Israel.
For his part, Nabil Abu Steina, another member of the union of Palestinian community said inviting Olmert to Germany wouldn’t help the Middle East peace process. “The natural place for war criminals is the International Criminal Court, and not this academic institution,” calling on the German government to press on the Israeli occupation to implement the international conventions.
Al-Hila called on the German government and the European Union to stop supporting the Israeli occupation and not to sign agreements with it and to stop exerting pressure on the Palestinian leadership and people and to support the Palestinian case in international forums.
Olmert and the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice were speaking at the BiTS, Business and Information Technology School, Campus Symposium, which is held annually in Iserlohn, Germany.
