Imam Sadeq (AS) Played Major Role in Correcting Wrong Perceptions of the Quran

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) -  Imam Sadeq (AS) is the origin of purity and guidance and played a significant role in correcting inaccurate perceptions and understandings about the Quran.This is according to Seyyed Abdul Latif Hussein Al-Amidi, Iraqi thinker and media spokesman of Najaf Friday prayer leader. He said the 6th Imam had a better opportunity during his lifetime (than other Imams) to foster the pure Islamic school, train Islamic scholars, and establish a school whose main job was to spread the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).During his lifetime, the Imam (AS) saw the rule of 10 Caliphs, which is indication of how volatile the situation of the Umayyads rule was, he said, adding that at the end of the Umayyad dynasty rebellions began in different parts of the Islamic territory.Al-Amidi said Imam Sadeq (AS) sought to develop the teachings of Islam, and narrated a Hadith from the Imam (AS) who said “What I say is the same as what my father said, and his word is like his father’s and his grandfather’s, and Hussein’s (AS) and Hassan’s (AS) and Ali’s (AS) and the Prophet’s (PBUH), and what the Prophet (PBUH) said is what God says.”The Iraqi thinker referred to the many students of Imam Sadeq (AS), quoting Hassan Ibn Ali Al-Wisha as saying “I saw 900 students and scholars at Kufa Mosque all of whom said Jafar Ibn Muhammad (Imam Sadeq) said this and that. And these were only a fraction of the large number of students of Imam Sadeq (AS).”He said many Hadiths have been narrated from the Imam (AS) and the number of those who narrated from him amounts to 4000.Al-Amidi noted that at the time of Imam Sadeq (AS) there were many schools of thought like Ash’ariyun, Mutazila and Dahriyun who would each interpret the Quran in a different way. “The Imam (AS) presented a clear view of Quran interpretation and endeavored to correct the misunderstandings and wrong interpretations.”He said the students of Imam Sadeq (AS) interpreted the Quran not only based on the Sha’n Nuzul (occasions of revelation)but also from ethical, educational, political and social aspects.The Iraqi scholar went on to say that all Islamic schools of thought benefited from the knowledge and teachings of Imam Sadeq (AS). /129
