(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A member of the Iranian parliament described the recent summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran as a political and diplomatic failure for the US and Britain, adding that the summit will further strengthen Iran's diplomatic power.
"The diplomatic defeat that the US and Britain suffered from Iran in this diplomatic war (over NAM) will increase Tehran's diplomatic power in the international arena," member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ali Jalilian said on Thursday.
He pointed to the participation of high-ranking officials from 120 NAM members in Tehran summit, and stated that the United States has lost the political competition over the summit.
The remarks by the Iranian lawmaker came after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined the successful holding of the 16th heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran, and said enemies were defeated in diplomatic war with Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with the chairman and members of the Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Thursday, and said the Islamic Republic of Iran scored another victory in the diplomatic campaign with the western governments, citing successful performance of the landmark summit of leaders of the NAM.
Supreme Leader said performance of the landmark summit of the NAM leaders brought a setback for the western governments in the diplomatic campaign they had waged against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The 16th NAM summit was held in Tehran from August 26 to 31.
Some 51 countries sent their high-ranking leaders to the 16th heads-of-state summit of NAM, while over 150 delegations from the world countries and bodies attended the other meetings of the bloc in Tehran.
NAM, which is comprised of some 120 member and 17 observer states, is an international organization of states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. NAM is the largest grouping of countries outside of the United Nations.
