AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): John Mearsheimer, the prominent international relations theorist and University of Chicago professor, in remarks referring to the high effectiveness of Iran's ballistic missiles in attacking U.S. military bases and centers, emphasized that this very issue will be one of the main factors in reducing the U.S. military presence in West Asia.
According to Sputnik, Mearsheimer, in an interview referring to Iran's missile and drone attacks on U.S. military bases and centers in the region, said, "The reality is that Iran's ballistic missiles have been highly effective in attacking U.S. military bases in the region, and they have either severely damaged or destroyed almost all of them."
He added, "There is evidence that U.S. forces, in response to these attacks, have been transferred from their bases in the Persian Gulf region to Jordan, then to Israel, and finally to Europe."
The University of Chicago professor emphasized that even after the end of the current hostilities, the United States is unlikely to return to the region due to the ongoing threat of Iran's ballistic missiles, as well as the reluctance of Persian Gulf countries to host U.S. forces.
Mearsheimer further noted that neither the United States nor the regional countries have an effective solution to defend against these types of missiles and drones.
It is worth noting that the prominent international relations theorist had previously stated in an interview with the "Uncensored" program, examining the consequences of the U.S. aggressive war against Iran, that the United States has suffered a devastating defeat in this war and has achieved none of the objectives it pursued at the beginning of the operation.
Mearsheimer said that Washington initiated the aggression against Iran with four objectives: regime change in Iran, eliminating Iran's ability to enrich uranium, ending Tehran's support for Yemen's Ansarullah, Lebanon's Hezbollah, and Hamas, and stopping Iran's long-range missile program. According to him, the United States has failed to achieve all four objectives.
This political science professor added, "Before the war began, Iran did not control the Strait of Hormuz, but now it has gained control over this strategic waterway."
Mearsheimer stated that U.S. military infrastructure in the region has been damaged, Washington's network of alliances in West Asia has been shaken, and the global economy may also face a serious crisis in the near future.
Describing this situation as a "catastrophic defeat," he emphasized that there is no longer any military solution to this crisis, and all strategies employed, including extensive airstrikes, blockades, and other military options, have failed.
Mearsheimer concluded by saying that no alternative strategy has yet been proposed for America to exit this situation, and therefore, the current crisis has no military solution.
