Why Should the U.S. Pay Compensation to Iran?

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran's Embassy in Tunisia, in response to Trump's remarks last night regarding the issue of compensation, wrote in a post on the social media platform X, "U.S. policies, actions, and crimes against Iran over the past century have directly and indirectly resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iranians. Nineteen of these actions and crimes are listed below:

1. 1942–1945 — U.S. occupation and military presence in Iran
2. 1953 — The August 19 coup and the overthrow of Iran's elected government
3. 1953–1979 — Political, security, and military support for the Shah's regime
4. 1979 — Blocking Iran's assets and the beginning of U.S. sanctions
5. 1980 — Severing diplomatic relations with Iran
6. 1980 — U.S. military operation in Iran (Tabas failure)
7. 1980–1988 — U.S. support for Saddam during his attack on Iran
8. 1988 — Shooting down Iran Air Flight 655 and the martyrdom of 290 people
9. 1995 — Imposition of comprehensive U.S. economic and trade sanctions against Iran
10. 1996 — Iran and Libya Sanctions Act (ILSA)
11. 2006–2012 — Escalation of nuclear and financial sanctions
12. 2012 — Severe sanctions against Iran's Central Bank and oil sector
13. 2018 — U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA and reimposition of sanction
14. 2018–2020 — Implementation of the "maximum pressure" policy against Iran
15. 2020 — Assassination of the martyred Commander Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad
16. 2020–2024 — Expansion of economic and oil sanctions
17. 2025–2026 — Escalation of pressures and military attacks against Iran
18. 2025–2026 — Martyrdom of Iran's Supreme Leader
19. 2025–2026 — Attack on the elementary school in Minab and the killing of a large number of students

And many other actions and crimes.

Iran's Embassy raised the question that with these actions and crimes, who should now pay compensation? Iran, which has always defended itself, or the United States, which has repeatedly harmed Iran?"
