(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi underlined that the massive participation of the Non-Aligned Movement leaders in the NAM summit in Tehran thwarted the western plots against the country.

"The success of the Islamic Republic of Iran (in holding the summit) was so clear that even some Western media called it as Iran's victory against the West," Salehi said on Sunday night.

The Iranian top diplomat also said that he held meetings with 63 foreign ministers of the NAM members during the summit.

The 16th heads-of-state NAM summit was held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, from August 26 to 31. At the Tehran conference, Iran received the presidency of the grouping.

During the 6 days of holding the conference, the Iranian officials held meetings with the heads of states and important leaders of different countries attending the conference on different regional and international issues as well as the bilateral relations.

NAM, which is comprised of some 120 member and 17 observer states, is an international organization of states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. NAM is the largest grouping of countries outside of the United Nations.

NAM member states represent nearly two-thirds of the United Nations' members and comprise 55% of the world population, particularly countries considered to be developing or part of the Third World.
