Chairman of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran's successful hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit promoted the country's stance on the international scene.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) Chairman of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran's successful hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit promoted the country's stance on the international scene.

"Iran has elevated its stance on the international scene through a proper hosting of the NAM summit," said Boroujerdi on Saturday.

"Iran showed its diplomatic might to the US and imposed a diplomatic failure on Washington," the senior lawmaker added.

He pointed to the failure of the West to isolate Iran politically, and stated, "The US and a number of the western countries had exercised all their efforts to undermine the Tehran summit but their efforts backfired."

The 16th heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned Movement officially wrapped up work in Tehran on Friday.

During the two-day meeting presided by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a number of 63 leaders of the NAM member states conveyed their opinions to their counterparts in the largest international grouping after the UN.

During the closing ceremony, the participating heads of state approved and issued a final statement with over 680 paragraphs on various topics, including opposition to aliens' interference in Syria's internal affairs, opposition to the unilateral sanctions against countries, supporting countries' independence and supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian nation's rights.
