(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said "friendship and cooperation" constitute the Islamic Republic of Iran's policies towards its neighboring countries.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the policy during a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov here in Tehran on Thursday.
The Leader also welcomed expansion of the two countries' ties, and stated, "The two countries' various and massive capacities have paved the way for cooperation."
Ayatollah Khamenei also noted that Tehran and Ashgabat's common interests, specially in the Caspian Sea, can act as a basis for the further enhancement the bilateral relations.
Turkmen President, for his part, said he will do his best to promote Turkmenistan's ties with its great neighbors, specially Iran.
Referring to NAM Summit as a very significant event, he said that no doubt that the Summit will have positive impacts on the progress of the member states.
In recent years Iran has initiated massive diplomatic efforts to expand its ties with the neighboring states, specially those in the Central Asia.
To the same end, President Ahmadinejad's administration has paid special attention to the increasing expansion of Tehran's economic, cultural and political ties and cooperation with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the last few years.
