Indian Official: NAM Summit derails US, Israeli conspiracies against Iran

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The on-going NAM Summit in Iran has derailed the US and Israel’s conspiracies against Iran, said an Indian leader Thursday in New Delhi.

The two-day 16th Summit of the 120-nations grouping kicked off today in Tehran.

In an interview, Yoganand Shastri, Speaker of Delhi Assembly said the US and Israel accuse Iran of attempting to develop nuclear weapons, running state-sponsored terrorism operations, under the pretext to derail their growing international influence.

By hosting the NAM Summit, which acts as a protector of developing countries against the arrogant powers, Iran has given a befitted reply to all those baseless accusations and has derailed the conspiracies hatched by the US and Israel, he added.

He noted that by hosting the 2nd largest summit on its soil Iran has proved its legitimacy as an influential power of the region.

Shastri stressed that the event is a major diplomatic win for Iran and a biggest defeat for the arrogant powers.

The Indian leader expressed his confidence that the Iranian government will grasp this opportunity, will move forward and will play a constructive role in resolving the regional as well as world problems.

Turning to the relevance of NAM in today’s world, the speaker said, “It has a great effect in the present world. It acts as a protector for small countries against the western hegemony. It empowers the member states to take their own decisions without external influence”.

He maintained that NAM can play a vital role in curbing divisive and destructive forces and creating one world based on respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity; non-interference in internal affairs, non-use of force or threat of force to settle international disputes and the equality of all sovereign nations.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an international organization with 120 member states that is not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.

Nearly two-thirds of the countries of the United Nations are also NAM members.

NAM is the biggest international organization after the United Nations General Assembly.

The organization was founded in Belgrade in 1961 by Yugoslavia’s president, Josip Broz Tito, India's first prime minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Egypt's second president, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah and Indonesia's first president, Sukarno.
