Iran's permanent envoy to the United Nations says the rotating presidency of the Islamic Republic over the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is of great importance politically and also at the international scenes.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Mohammad Khazaei told reporters on Sunday that the 16th NAM Summit in Tehran is indicative of Iran's great capacity and capability to hold this important responsibility.

He also noted that the meetings proved Iran's success and failure of the enemies, including the US, in their attempts against the Islamic Republic.

Khazaei said the 120-member organization is of tremendous importance in political, regional, and international equations and due efforts to maintain peace in the world.

The 16th summit of NAM member states will be held in the Iranian capital from August 26 to 31.

NAM is an international organization with 120 member states that is not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. Nearly two-thirds of the countries of the United Nations are also NAM members.

NAM is the biggest international organization after the United Nations General Assembly.
