(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Imam Javad’s (AS) Imamate began when he was a teenager and this was a Divine Hikmat (wisdom) for preparing the Shia community for the period of occultation. This is according to director of the Center for Religious Counseling Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Mohammad Sadat Mansouri speaking on the occasion of Imam Javad’s (AS) martyrdom anniversary. He said the 9th Imam was martyred when he was 25. He said in Shia culture it is ok for an Imam to attain Imamate at an early age, adding that according to the Holy Quran, Jesus announced his prophethood right after being born: [Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah . He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.” (Quran, 19:30) Hojat-ol-Islam Mansouri noted that Caliph al-Ma’mun sought to undermine the status of Imam Javad (AS) for his young age. “That is why he held so many scientific debates with the presence of scholars and jurisprudents in order to challenge the Imam’s (AS) credibility. However, Imam Javad (AS) defeated the opponents in the debates and thwarted Ma’mun’s scheme.” Born in Madina, 10th Rajab 195 Hijri (811 AD), Imam Javad was martyred in Baghdad on 29th Zeeqad 220 Hijiri (835, aged 25 years, Period of Imamate 17 years.
