Millions of people across Iran are pouring into the streets to mark the International Qods Day in a show of solidarity with the Palestinians.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The solidarity day marks the decades-long sufferings of the Palestinians under the occupation of the Zionists.

The fasting marchers carried placards in support of the Palestinians and chanted slogans of “Death to Israel”, “Death to the U.S.”, and “Death to Britain”.

Demonstrators in Tehran shouted: “Qods Belongs to Islam”. Demonstrators also made slogans such as “Death to Seditionist, Death to Monafiq (hypocrite).”

Helicopters in the capital Tehran are hovering over the main streets where marchers converge for prayer.

Qods Day was first proposed in 1979 by the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.

Analysts say the rallies this year are highly important as people in the Arab world have revolted against the despotic rulers and have so far brought down four dictators including Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak who was a friend of Israel.

In Tehran officials including the heads of three branches of government, the chairman of the Expediency Council, ministers, lawmakers, and military officials joined ordinary people in showing solidarity with the Palestinians.

Qods day has acted as unifying factor in the Islamic world. Placards were installed in streets reading “Qods Day Is the Day of Unity of the Islamic World.”

Demonstrators also held pictures of “grieving” Palestinian mothers and decomposed bodies of Palestinians martyred in the Zionist regime’s bombardment on Gaza.

Concurrent with demonstrations in Iran similar rallies are being held by Muslims in other countries across the world.
