Thousands of anti-regime protesters have held fresh rallies in the south of Yemen, calling on the army to protect their popular revolution.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Yemeni anti-regime demonstrators took to the streets once again in the southern city of Taizz late on Sunday, and urged the military forces loyal to Ali Abdullah Saleh to stop attacking them and instead defend the people's revolution, reports say.

The protesters also reiterated their determination not to retreat from pressing ahead with their months-old revolution, which broke out in late January in protest at rampant corruption and unemployment in the impoverished country.

This comes after one protester was reportedly killed and some others injured in clashes between opposition tribesmen and the pro-regime elite Republican Guard forces earlier on Sunday.

New footage shows the extent of the damage in the part of the city where the clashes erupted when the anti-government tribesmen reportedly torched an armored vehicle belonging to the regime forces.

Similarly on Friday, Yemeni army soldiers opened fire on a car in the southern port city of Aden, killing two people and wounding three others.

Forces loyal to Saleh have often resorted to brutal violence to disperse the peaceful opposition demonstrators who demand an end to his regime, which is supported by Saudi Arabia and the US.

The Yemeni opposition has also called for the dissolution of parliament and country's consultative council and the formation of a committee to draw up a new constitution and set dates for holding a referendum on the constitution and for elections.
