Iranian top cleric met with a delegation of Iraqi ulima (scholars) speaking on history of Najaf, Islamic media and a summary of the activities in the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iranian top cleric met with a delegation of Iraqi Ulema (scholars) speaking on history of Najaf, Islamic media and a summary of the activities in the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

Secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri met with a delegation of scholars, religious top figures, orators, Friday prayer leaders and seminary professors and expressed his views on the features of an Islamic media and the history of Najaf city, one of the most reverend cities in Shia world.

On the history of Najaf city, which is the resting place of the third Shia leader Imam Ali, grand Ayatollah Taskhiri said," The first thing which catches the eye in the history of Najaf city is the Najaf Seminary where many renowned scholars and has had remarkable growth since migration of Sheikh Toosi, famous Shia cleric, and his constant efforts.

The ayatollah referred to the holy status of Najaf in the Muslim world and said," In a historical view of the city, we find that clerics in Najaf have played a very important role in fighting the enemies of Islam and this historical aspect has heightened the position of Najaf among all Muslims.

He welcomed the idea to appoint Najaf as the cultural capital of the Muslim world in 2012 and hailed the literary aspect of the city beside its sanctity for the Muslim.

Senior religious figure referred to the activities of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and said the center has taken giant steps in nearing Islamic denominations, especially Shia and Sunni.

Proximity, as the religious figure stressed, is not solving one denomination in another one or leaving ones beliefs for other beliefs rather it is finding the common grounds between different denominations since the common ground is more than 95 percent which has to be expanded.

He hailed Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Kashef Al-Ghata (1294 – 1377 AH) a pioneer of proximity in Iraq, Ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Kazemeyni Boroujerdi (Iranian Shia Muslim cleric) and Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr (1935 –1980) Iraqi Shi'a cleric who played important role in creating proximity between Shia and Sunni.

He referred to the Islamic awakening in the Middle East and said the moves are originated from Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Grand Shia cleric also referred to the features of an Islamic media and said the Islamic media has to avoid lies and sedition and there should not spread corruption and unreal rumors.

Iraqi delegation of top religious figures and journalists will stay in Iran for visits to major holy cities, shrine of the late leader of the Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Rouhollah Khomeini (RA) and other academic and cultural centers.
