(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The crossing has been plagued with delays since post-revolution Egypt agreed to open it for regular travel following years of blockade.
"We feel a real crisis concerning the movement of the travelers via Rafah, but we realize the pressures that are placed on the Egyptians,” Abu Zuhri said at a meeting at the interior ministry in Gaza.
"Egyptian authorities have promised to improve the travel mechanism within the coming two months.”
During the meeting attended by heads of the security departments in Rafah, Abu Zuhri added that “Hamas is showing huge flexibility in dealing with this issue in line with the Palestinian national interest.”
He affirmed that the movement remained committed to an agreement signed in Cairo but claimed “the other party [Fatah] is the one delaying and is working to obstruct reconciliation due to outside dictates.”
On President Mahmoud Abbas' nomination of Salam Fayyad as prime minister, Abu Zuhri said no party had a right to impose conditions. "Fayyad is rejected by Hamas, so he should choose an agreed upon person."
