(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - It is highly recommended to promote the Quranic and religious culture in jails, Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Naseri, representative of the Supreme Leader in Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari Province said.
Speaking with the officials of Dar-ol-Quran Centers in jails, he defined prison as a place to punish and guide the culprits who have violated the law either unintentionally or on purpose.
Stressing the importance of guiding all the offenders, he added: “Islam has put a great deal of emphasis on forming groups and gatherings to further promote religious teachings among people.”
“One main challenge in this regard is the prisoners’ various beliefs, temperaments and modes of behavior,” Ayatollah Naseri went on to say, noting that overcoming the existing obstacles requires more time and studies.
He also emphasized the effect of the prisoners’ criminology on improving their lives after their release, adding: “We should trace the prisoners’ weak points and behavioral defects even after their release to rehabilitate their personality; therefore, running cultural programs and developing religious teachings in jails should be the major concern of the corresponding officials.”
Referring to the importance of organizing Quranic programs for prisoners, he further urged the officials to consider religious and Quranic teachings in their planning and help the inmates fix such lofty views in their minds.
Calling for the replacement of old, improper educational methods with modern, efficient ones, Ayatollah Naseri expressed hopes that they could take positive steps to train the prisoners through particular plans for their mind and soul.
