(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "Unidentified assilants" shot Muslim scholar Maksud Sadikov near his home in Makhachkala, capital of Russia-held Dagestan region, RIA, Itar-Tass and Interfax reported.
At least one other person was killed, according to the news agencies, but there were conflicting reports about the identity of the second victim.
Itar-Tass reported that Sadikov's nephew and another man were killed, while Interfax reported that Sadikov and a close relative who acted as his bodyguard were killed.
Muslim insurgents, seeking to create an independent state in Russia-held mostly Muslim North Caucasus, are battling Russian forces decade after Moscow seized the power of another Muslim region of Chechnya.
