The former commander of the Iranian Army says Israel is not capable to hit the Islamic Republic, adding that the country's armed forces are currently at their best.
“At present the readiness of the armed forces, the Army in particular, is at its peak,” Mehr News Agency quoted Major General Mohammad Salimi as saying on Friday.
Salimi, who serves as military advisor to Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, downplayed the Israeli war rhetoric against Iran.
“They have always used threats against our country, but they should know that the might of our country's armed forces, both in terms of modern facilities and equipment as well as human resources, is very high,” the general stressed.
“Israel does not have the power to invade Iran, or else the Zionist regime would have [already] acted on its empty threats against Iran,” he concluded.
In January, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for "a credible military option against Iran" to force Tehran into ending its nuclear energy program.
Netanyahu said that military action should be taken by the international community and headed by the United States.
"You have to ratchet up the pressure and I don't think that this pressure will be sufficient to have this regime change course without a credible military option that is put before them by the international community led by the United States," he stated.
On March 3, Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces Brigadier-General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan said the structure, composition and organization of the Army's ground forces would undergo changes.
“In order to cope with the new conditions governing the world and the kind of military threats emerging, it was necessary to bring about changes in the structure, organization and composition of Iran's Ground Forces,” he added.
Pourdastan said the new structural changes would enable the ground forces to deal with possible threats from different angles.
