The protesters were being largely led by opposition parties, particularly the main Al-Wefaq.
Shia and Sunni, shoulder to shoulder of each other, yesterday marched from the Pearl Roundabout in Seef to Prime Minister's office in Manama and returned to the landmark, calling for unity. Women wearing red and white stickers reading "No Sunni, No Shi'ite, Only Bahraini" entered the landmark after the return march as thousands stayed along Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and King Faisal Highway.
Members from Al Wefaq Islamic National Society, Democratic Progressive Tribune, Al Ekha National Society, National Democratic Assemblage, Islamic Action Society (Al Amal) and National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad) as well as General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions took part.
The societies have formed an alliance and wants guarantees of a new constitution and an elected government before sitting down at the negotiation table for the national dialogue urged by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander.
"These protesters have been here for more than a week and exerting pressure on the government to meet their demands," Wa'ad secretary general Ibrahim Sharif told the at the roundabout. "The societies support them."
Meanwhile Bahraini Shia opposition leader called for Sunni-Shia harmony on Thursday:
"I will consider any attack against anyone in this country," Sheikh Ali Salman, the head of the Islamic National Accord Association (INAA), the main Shia political formation, told thousands of demonstrators marching on the King Faisal Corniche in Manama.
Shias should guarantee the safety of every Sunni family, and Sunnis should do the same for the Shias, Salman said.
