(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Islamic Society of York Region of Toronto Canada celebrated Prophet’s Birthday and 32nd Anniversary of Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday February 12th 2011. The event was filled to capacity; over 500 people attended the event. The speakers included Phil Wilayto (Author and American Peace Activist) and Cynthia Mckinney (Former US Congresswoman). The event host was Brother Zafar Bangash, director of the Islamic Society of York Region. According to ABNA correspondent in Toronto, The event started with the recitation of a verse from the noble Qur’an followed by a short speech by Brother Zafar Bangash starting with the Islamic Revolution that overthrew Shah on February 11th 1979 till yesterday February 11th 2011 that brought the downfall of Mubarak by the current Egyptian revolution. He highlighted the inspiration that the Islamic Revolution of 1979 is providing to the oppressed nations of the world including Turkey, Jordon, Yemen, Italy and Algeria. Phil Wilayto spoke eloquently on the progress and developments made by the Islamic Republic of Iran post revolution. He spoke on the myths promoted by the western media against the Islamic Republic and their hidden agenda in demonizing Iran.
He spoke about his journey to the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2007 with his group called “People Peace delegation” followed by writing the book titled “In Defense of Iran”. After his speech, Phil Wilayto’s book was available with his autograph to the audience. Cynthia Mckinney spoke on the path to Freedom and Liberation for the oppressed people of Palestine and her journey to Gaza to break the seize on Gaza.
