(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sakaggya, a lawyer from Uganda, will meet human rights defenders, government officials and civil society groups during her two-day visit, sources said.
“The aim of the mission is to evaluate in person, in an objective and impartial manner, the situation of human rights defenders in the country, and to initiate a process of constructive cooperation with the authorities,”
Sekaggya is visiting India at the invitation of the government, the UN website said.
Sources said that Sekaggya was unlikely to meet pro-Inda or pro-freedom leaders.
Margaret Sekaggya was appointed Special Rapporteur in March 2008 by the UN Human Rights Council and is independent from any government and serves in her individual capacity, the website says.
She will conclude her visit to India by addressing a press conference in New Delhi on January 21.
