(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The European Union is set to announce a general ban on Afghan international airlines entering its air space, the privately-owned Afghan airlines Safi Airways said in Frankfurt on Monday.

The imminent ban which is expected to become effective on Wednesday, is reportedly linked to the Afghan government's lack of progress in establishing a civil aviation authority which would meet international standards.

Any ban would apply to the privately-owned Kam Air, Safi Airways and Pamir Airways.

State-owned Ariana Afghan Airlines is already banned from flying to the EU.
