Israeli forces take fire on a mentally-disabled man, who fails to take note of their warning shots, while nearing a Tel Aviv-declared "combat zone" in Gaza.
The military injured the 40-year-old east of the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, saying he had been walking in the direction of a so-called security fence, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported.
Israel carried out a self-proclaimed withdrawal from Gaza in 2005. The forces have, however, been carrying out deadly incursions into the enclave ever since.
An August study by the United Nations stated, "Palestinians have been totally or partially prevented from accessing land located up to 1,000-1,500 meters" from Gaza's border with Israel.
The Tuesday incident marked the second such act of aggression to take place during the last week.
The Israeli military also targets Gaza's civilians, including minors, who search the areas of former Israeli settlements for collectable debris.
The scrap collectors would sell the materials to factories and contractors across the strip as a coping strategy in the face of an all-out Tel Aviv-imposed land, aerial and naval blockade, which has been depriving the Gazans of food, fuel and other necessities for more than three years.
