Ali Larijani said the reawakening and effective moves among Muslims plus the resistance against the Israeli regime are the best assets of the Middle East region

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Ali Larijani said the reawakening and effective moves among Muslims plus the resistance against the Israeli regime are the best assets of the Middle East region.

“The question of Palestine is the most painful issue in our [contemporary] history,” the Majlis speaker mentioned as saying at an international conference on Palestine which opened in Tehran on Saturday.

“We regularly witness blatant repression against the Palestinians,” he said, pointing to 60 plus years of Israeli theft and occupation of Palestinian lands and the systematic killing of defenseless Palestinians by the occupying power.

He recalled that for decades Palestinians have been forced from their homeland and subjected to oppression, lawlessness and injustice on a large scale.

“Israel tried to gain a foothold in the region between 1948 and 1967,” Larijani said, referring to the year Israel was established (1948) by the British and the Six-Day War between Israel and Arabs that lead to the former’s quick military victory.

He noted that some countries made every effort to resist the usurper state during that period, but “anti-Zionist moves then were apparently ineffective and unable to prevent the Zionist regime from stabilizing its position.”

The senior lawmaker added that Tel Aviv was mandated by its chief bankroller the United States to “create a fresh saga” in the volatile region to help establish a “new Middle East” in the interest of western imperialism.

He referred to Israel’s humiliating setbacks at the hands of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement and Hamas during Tel Aviv’s 33-day war of aggression against Lebanon in summer 2006 and its 22-day brutal attacks on Gaza in December 2008.

“Israel suffered an ignominious defeat in its 33-day war against Lebanon and 22-day conflict in Gaza.”

“That [the Lebanon and Gaza fighting] was indeed the beginning of the end of the Zionist regime”.
