Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; Nazran, Russia -- Local Imam Khamzat Chumakov was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after a bomb exploded under his car in the city of Nazran in the Republic of Ingushetia in the North Caucasus.
"At around 8:40 a.m. Moscow time, an explosion occurred under the imam's VAZ-2107 car in the Ekazhevo district of Nazran. He was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition," a source in Ingushetia's Interior Ministry told Interfax on Tuesday.
An investigation is under way and the authorities are preparing to open a criminal case, the source said.
Chumakov, who heads a mosque in the Nasyr-Kort district of Nazran, is known for his fierce criticism of militants, their accomplices and radical Islam followers, he said.
