Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; MADRID -- The Muslim community in Spain is boastful about the Islamic Cultural Center of Madrid, which is a key cultural Islamic institution and august civilizational, religious, social and architectural landmark.
It is one of the largest Islamic centers in Europe. It comprises a very capacious mosque, a prayer hall for women, a library, a lecture hall, a medical clinic, a restaurant, a cafeteria and a gym.
Established in 1992, the 11,000-meter center was financed by the Saudi Ministry of Finance under the supervision of the World Muslim League.
The center is a "mini-state" that provides services to Muslims and caters for them, the center's director Dr. Saud Al-Ghadian told KUNA.
It is the key religious reference for Muslims in Spain, with scholars giving religious lectures and lessons, he said.
He hailed distinguished relations between the center and Arab and Muslim ambassadors in Spain within the framework of continuing fruitful cooperation for the sake of serving Islamic issues and meeting their relevant needs.
He pointed to close cooperation between the center and other religious societies and organizations in Spain, which are roughly 600 in number, which are all registered with the Spanish Ministry of Justice.
The center is a cultural reference for all these religious centers, providing them with necessary books and lectures, he said.
Furthermore, it provides for various social activities, catering for needy families, old people, widows and divorcees.
