Addressing thousands of students and others at the University of Havana, Castro urged US President Obama to avoid setting off a war against Iran with unpredictable consequences for the world.
The former Cuban president also said it was his country’s role to warn the world of such dangers that any probable war would bring to nations worldwide.
He said earlier that Washington is in a checkmate position with Tehran, reiterating the devastating consequences of any global nuclear war.
He stressed that nobody will survive after such a nuclear war breaks out.
"Does anyone think the Iranians, a people with a culture of thousands of years and which is much more intertwined with death than ours, will lack the courage we have shown in resisting the demands of the United States?" the former Cuban leader asked.
On June 9, the UN Security Council approved a resolution, brokered and pushed ahead by Washington, which imposed new sanctions on Iran.
Iran argues that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency it has the right to develop and seek access to civilian nuclear technology.
