Imam Hadi (AS) spent a considerable part of his imamat period in prisons of the Abbasid Caliphs who thought could confine Imam’s effect on the society with confining his holy body. However, this was a practice for the Shia to get used to being physically away from their imam to bear the time of Imam Mahdi (May Allah Hasten His Great Return).
Imam Hadi (AS) was martyred on 3rd of Rajab 254 AH (868 A.D.) in Samirrah, Iraq.
