Jeddah, Saudi Arabia -- General Secretary of the International Organization for Quran Memorization (IOQM) has confirmed on Tuesday, April 27, that its organization will hold an international conference on teaching the Holy Quran starting from June 5 to 7, 2010 in Jeddah.

The event themed “Cooperation and Integration of Quran Memorization Organizations” is aimed at spreading the messages of the Quran, being the words of God and a blessing for the universe.

“This conference is first of its kind. There are millions of Muslims who do not even know how to read a small chapter of the Quran,” Abdul Basfar said as quoted by ArabNews.

A number of outstanding Muslim scholars in the field of Quranic teaching and Quran memorization have been confirmed to present their research papers at the conference.

Further Basfar wished that the event would be an enlightenment in the field of Quranic teaching and memorization not only in the Arab world, but also in those non-Arab-speaking countries.

IOQM is an organization mainly concerned with teaching Holy Quran and Quran memorization.

It has ran a number of Quranic school in 65 countries worldwide and produced more than 30,000 hafidz (Quran memorizers); meaning that Quran is the most memorized Holy book amongst other Holy books from other religions.
