Several Iraqi cities declare public holiday after Imam Khamenei's martyrdom

A number of Iraqi cities have declared a day of public holiday after the martyrdom of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A number of Iraqi cities have declared a day of public holiday after the martyrdom of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

According to Iraqi media outlets, the cities of Najaf, Karbala, and Basra, among others declared Sunday as public holiday after Ayatollah Khamenei’s martyrdom.

Earlier, top Iraqi Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and the Framework for Coordinating Shias in Iraq had expressed condolences for the Leader’s martyrdom in separate statements.

Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, was martyred following an attack by the Zionist regime and the United States on Saturday morning, February 28, 2026.
