Palestinian flag to be raised at WHO for the first time

The Palestinian delegation has won the right to fly its flag at the World Health Organization (WHO) following a vote at the World Health Assembly (WHA) on Monday.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian delegation has won the right to fly its flag at the World Health Organization (WHO) following a vote at the World Health Assembly (WHA) on Monday.

According to Mehr, delegates voted in favor of a resolution permitting the flags of non-member observer states at the UN to be displayed at WHO headquarters and offices, enabling the Palestinian flag to be flown alongside those of WHO member states.

The motion passed with 95 votes in favor, four against—cast by Israel, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Germany—and 27 abstentions. The decision allows observer state flags to be placed after WHO member states’ flags, in alphabetical order, without affecting their observer status or granting full membership.

Discussions centered on raising the Palestinian flag at WHO, citing UN resolution 70/15 as justification.

The draft resolution was introduced by a coalition of nations, including Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, and Türkiye.

The approval marks a symbolic milestone in Palestine’s diplomatic recognition within international organizations.
