FM: Violence, extremism have no place in Iranian culture

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Friday that manifestations of violence and extremism have no place in Iranian culture.

'Iranians are opposed to violence against human being, nature and living creatures and we should use arts to introduce the rich culture away from the lies and the sinister situation overwhelming the region, Zarif said addressing the 5th Iran International Green Film Festival.

The Iranian-Islamic culture has from the beginning stressed respecting the rights of all human being and the rights of nature.

In the Islamic-Iranian culture, destroying the nature amounts to crime against humanity, Iran's top diplomat said.

He noted that the entire world should start an integrated effort to protect the environment.

Geographical borders tend to be senseless as long as protection of environment is concerned, the foreign minister added.

He referred to the spread of terrorism from Syria to Paris, Sydney and other western capitals saying that 'We are living in an integrated world and we have a common future.'

Expressing concern over climate changes and global warming, Zarif said that violence and destruction of environment are common threats that demand collective cooperation.

The 5th Iran International Green Film Festival took place in Tehran from May 13th – 20th, 2016.

The event provided opportunities for closer communication between artists and the public regarding the environmental preservation issues and encouraging public participation in preserving the environment by using the medium of films.
