AhlulBayt News Agency - On Sunday afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fully captured the Tall Sawwan farms and made a major push to seize the village of Tall Sawwan.
This village is located in the embattled East Ghouta region of Damascus, between the towns of Douma and Adra.
The government attack was a joint operation by the SAA’s ‘Palestine Liberation Army’ and Republican Guard while it was launched from army positions at the ‘Army Brigade 39 Base’ and Tall Sawwan cable factory.
During the advance, an IED (improvised explosive device) resulted in the death of 2 government troops while 4 were injured during skirmishes with Jaish al-Islam militants.
On the other hand, a military source reported that 11 Jaish al-Islam fighters were killed inside the farms.
Three months ago, some 40 government soldiers were gunned down in the neighbouring farms of Tall Kurdi as entrenched Islamist fighters ambushed the SAA.
However, due to today’s advances the SAA is able to attack rebel fighters inside Tall Sawwan village from three flanks as Islamist insurgents are almost entirely encircled and already in poor condition.
Meanwhile, another government offensive is ongoing in the southern part of East Ghouta as Islamist rebels in Deir al-Asafir and Zabdeen are fighting to maintain control of the villages.
At the current rate of advance, the Syrian Government will likely secure its capital within the next 18 months.
For now, 80% of Damascus is controlled by the SAA with Islamist insurgents controlling the rest across various isolated districts and areas.
