Ahlul Bayt News Agency - Five people were killed and nine others were injured Monday in violence in the Iraqi capital, said a police source, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The source said that “two people were killed and nine others were injured when a local-made improvised explosive bomb [IED] went off targeting a market place in al-Sadr area in eastern Baghdad.”
“Two civilians were killed by unidentified assailants in al-Bayyaa area – a Shia majority area – while another civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen in Hai al-Jamaa area in western Baghdad,” the same source added.
Daily bombings have become a familiar phenomenon in Baghdad and other large provinces in the country, often targeting civilians.
In February, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, citing “improved security conditions” in the capital, lifted the city’s nighttime curfew, which had been in effect for eight years.
