Ahlulbayt News Agency: The Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sayyed Ibraheem Zakzaky delivered a closing address to the participants of the 4-day  Kano International Conference on Islamic Thought. He spoke on different areas, such as conflicting ideologies regarding the Islamic revolution, planting the seeds of disunity among people, the stages of Da’wah, and steadfastness on the path of Allah. The Speech was delivered on Sunda,y the 13th of April 2025.

Purpose of Conference.

After greetings and salutations to the audience, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sayyed Ibraheem Zakzaky, started by explaining the aim and purpose of the conference like this. He said the conference on Islamic Thought is organised to instill right and sound revolutionary ideology among one another, as by nature, humans are in need of such admonition and guidance at all times, irrespective of their level of knowledge.

“At a time like this, we are being faced with various and sometimes conflicting revolutionary ideologies (fikrah), to carry away people’s attention. Sometimes issues full of confusion are raised just to divert the attention of people from the real things. Nowadays, Da’wah (calls) and opinions are many, and as such, a person must be careful in the face of these different opinions to save himself from going astray or deviating unknowingly.”

So, for this reason, we have to organize this type of gathering in the form of seminars and conferences. We have to revive our hearts through admonishing”

Sheikh Zakzaky calls on the participants to remain strong and steadfast on the path of resistance and struggle despite the different diversionary tactics being played. This is because the Islamic Movement has been a major concern for the enemies of the Movement for the fact that the nature of the Movement is revolutionary and is solely about returning the Ummah to the Islamic system.

So, among other diversionary ideologies proposed by some people is to participate or get fully involved in the current unjust system to become strong and later change it.

Others suggest that we deeply engage in teaching and spreading awareness about the change until people get the message, and by this, a revolution would automatically take place as people are educated! To them, using this method, there will be no need to make any move to change the existing un-Islamic system.

All these methods cannot work, as revolution is serious work; it involves changing people from an old way of life to a new system and cannot happen without effort and serious work.

The Prophet of Islam, Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his pure progeny, when he declared his message, the enemies fought him. After the declaration of his message, he faced persecution, expulsion, and later they waged war on him. However, Allah granted him victory against his enemies in Makka to the extent that some of them submitted to him.

This shows that the people of Makka during the Prophet did not submit based on preaching. The Prophet (SAWA) passed various stages of Da’wah, which are intrinsic steps in the religion of Allah and must be followed.

All prophets of Allah started with calling people amidst opposition of the enemies. They got few followers, yet despite their small number their enemies did not allow them to go free, they fought them to the extent that Allah granted victory to the Prophets and the few followers.  This is the method and no other way.

Our Da’wah is to Islam.

This Da’wah is not based on only one school of Thought; it is rather a call to Islam. Even the Da’wah in Iran was not based on a particular School of Thought, it was purely Islamic during the Imam. Islam comprises all as all the  Schools of Thought are within it. Right from the beginning, we did not call to a particular School of Thought, we only called to Islam. We will not even force people to accept Islam if the Islamic System of Governance is eventually established, this is because even during the time of the holy Prophet (SAWA), not everyone accepted Islam, likewise during the time of Sheikh Uthman bn Fodio, though in all the cases, Islam was supreme.

Planting disunity among people

However, people are put in confusion due to the spread of various calls to a School of Thought, thus such people get different names, and based on this, they must also give us a name. So, the moment someone starts calling to Islam people try to find out which sects or Schools he belongs to.  Ours is Islam.

The worst part is that people now use such sectoral Dawah as a business for worldly gain and as a means of living. Such people are mostly engaged in calling for divisions among the Muslim Ummah. They make worldly gains based on calling other unbelievers. How can such people agree on unity!!

Thus, I can say that the enemies of Islam succeed in planting disunity among us, religious and tribal, to the extent that fighting erupts among people based on this. Muslims are now divided into different groups to the extent that each insults the other.

Everyone is concerned with his view as the only right view, even a simple discussion is done to win, not to understand other people’s viewpoints. This phenomenon happens even among us to the extent that they even see the return of Islam as something Impossible, thus suggesting a compromise.

Compromise cannot be accepted. Why Imam Husain (AS) gave his life in Karbala though he could have chosen a compromise, as he was given a choice to either submit in humiliation or face death with Izzah. He chose to die with Izzah. This shows that the issue of struggle is about being steadfast to the last breath.

Da’wah has different stages

The issue of Islamic struggle does not necessarily mean fighting a war, Jihad has different levels and stages. It starts with oneself to attain purification; it’s the biggest jihad. It involves practicing Islamic teachings and then calling people to it. Then, you will face trials which sometimes may lead to Hijrah (migration) or battles. Any of them is possible.

While in the level of da’wah or calling it does not mean keeping silent in the face of injustice.  The unjust people too may not keep silent and watch as Da’wah progresses and at this stage what is required is patience and steadfastness. Victory is from Allah alone and is given to those who are patient.  We pray for Allah’s lenience during trials.

On the issue of topics discussed during the conference, the leader says many lessons were learned regarding what happened from the beginning of the Da’wah to date. Many of those who left us in the past, though they are still alive, are no longer in the Islamic struggle as they found themselves confused and lost in the storms of politics. The movement and its followers still exist and still progressing.

Doing for the sake of Allah alone.

The important goal of our Da’wah is to establish Islam to be the supreme authority and to lead the Ummah. No one knows the exact time except Allah. We shall keep going, and our reward lies with Allah alone.

So, the most important thing is self-purification through establishing compulsory acts of worship, supererogatory worship, and avoiding harming people. Above all, it is to do things for the sake of Allah alone while turning away from the blame of people. Praise and blame should be the same for a person who is doing things for the sake of Allah alone.

Other activities are Quranic recitation, other acts of worship, and Duas as reported by Ahlubayt (AS).

No shortcut to establishing Islam.

The Leader of the Islamic movement said there is no shortcut to establishing the Islamic system of Governance, If there is a shortcut way or simpler way, it could have been given to the best among his Prophet. However, there is no such way, and the path is full of tests and trials.

What is more important is to remain strong and steadfast on the path of Islam up to death, as victory belongs to Allah alone.

He called on people to be cautious of different conflicting ideologies to establish Islam.
