AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An Iraqi security source, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed the drones that hit Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi’s residence flew out of the US embassy and then returned to the diplomatic mission, passing through the Green Zone’s missile defense systems.
Early on November 7, Kadhimi escaped unhurt from an unclaimed "assassination" bid in which at least two quadcopter drones armed with explosives targeted his home within Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone.
The explosion blew doors off hinges and smashed concrete stairs on the outside of the building, wounding some of the premier’s security guards.
The source has stressed that the cameras installed near the embassy prove the narration.
“Kadhimi’s absence in his home during the drone strike in the late hours of the night is evidence of a theatrical plot to control the situation after the clashes with the protesters,” the security source further stated.
Since the attack, Western media has tried to link it to Iran and what it calls Tehran-backed groups in Iraq. Gen. Frank McKenzie, the head of US Central Command, has blamed the attack on "Iranian-backed militia", but Tehran has condemned the attack and has denied any role in it.
Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force General Esmayeel Qa'ani paid a surprise visit to Baghdad immediately after the attack, calling for calm and national unity.
He also called on all Iraqi sides to respect the results of last month’s parliamentary elections, Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi told Al-Alam News Network after the visit.
According to the Iranian ambassador, Gen. Qa’ani condemned the attack on the Iraqi premier’s residence and stressed the importance of a thorough, comprehensive and technical investigation into the incident.
