AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran's president had a cordial meeting with the country's top media executives on Tuesday evening, explaining the great achievements of the Government of Prudence and Hope over the past seven years, and answered their questions.
In this meeting which was held on the occasion of Government's Week, Dr Hassan Rouhani stated that it is important to compare the time conditions and services provided by this government to the people with previous governments, saying, "Government of Prudence and Hope is the first government after the Islamic Revolution that started its work under the conditions of sanctions, and since the end of last year, it has faced problems with the outbreak of coronavirus".
The President said, "This comparison shows the strengths and, in some cases, may be weaknesses, but at the same time, every success we had was due to the presence and efforts of the people and the guidance of the Supreme Leader, in other words, our strengths belong to the nation and our weaknesses belong to us".
Dr Rouhani added, "During these 7 years, the situation was such that the country's non-oil exports exceeded its oil exports, which was unprecedented in the last 60 years and since the time of the late Mossadegh's government".
The President referred to the achievements of the 11th and 12th governments in the field of electricity generation and dam construction and said, "By the end of this government, 20,000 MW will be added to the country's electricity production, which is unprecedented compared to previous governments, and more than 50 dams will be put into operation".
Dr Rouhani described the comparison of these achievements with the achievements of previous governments not the work of the government but the work of the media and stated, "The government has done its job and duty, but the explanation of these services and its criticism is with the media".
The president said, "The media do both criticism and explanation, but if the work is not explained correctly, criticism will not be based on reality. We must first explain the truth and present the news correctly to the people, and then make a sympathetic criticism of that reality along with a solution".
Welcoming the criticism of the mass media, Dr Rouhani stated, "If criticism is done out of compassion, it will lead to the correction of affairs, the perfection of affairs and the improvement of affairs".
The President also referred to the need to meet expectations with the facilities and said, "In any government and at any time, if we raise the expectations of the people too much, we will always fail; That is, any government, no matter how much it provides services, will fail if it raises expectations in the eyes of the people. Expectations should be in line with the possibilities and realities of society".
Dr Rouhani added, "In any case, our resources are limited, and if expectations increase above the level of available resources, there will be a gap between expectations and facts, which will result in despair and frustration among the people".
The President said, "Although it imposed many hardships on the country, coronavirus also created a harmony in the fight against this plague. That is, both the government and the media were in unison, and this can have very good effects and lead to unity and empathy".
Dr Rouhani described it very important to increase the country's production and thwart the plots of the enemies in the coming year and said, "The enemies sought the collapse of the country and the system, and we must all explain to the people the fact that the government and the nation won against the enemy".
The president added, "Despite the pressures of the enemies and the problems caused by coronavirus, statistics show that in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period last year, in almost all sectors of industry, agriculture and even services, we are almost among the few countries in the world that has had an increase in production, and God willing, we will implement this leap in production to the best of our ability".
