Yemeni Army Downs US ’Scaneagle’ Spy Drone in Asir

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Air Defenses of the Yemeni Army and Popular Committees downed on Friday morning a US spy plane while carrying out hostile missions in Asir.

Yemeni Armed forces spokesman Brigadier Yahya Sare'e said, "the downed US spy drone is of a Scaneagle type. It was carrying out spying missions."

“The drone was shot down at lines of contact off Asir in southern Saudi Arabia,” he added.

Scaneagle worths 11.25 million dollars. It is an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), that locates targets from the air.

This drone is small in size compared to its counterparts in the regular armies, which facilitates its transport. It is equipped with a surveillance camera (Electro optical) and other infrared camera.

This type of drones emerged during the US war on Iraq, where more than 1000 sorties were carried out over Iraqi areas.
