The chairman of Iran's Expediency Council has lambasted the heinous desecration of the holy Quran, urging the Muslim world to nullify the West's plots through vigilance.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; Insulting a book that urges believers to make the best choice from what comes before them reflects the failure of those who propagate the Western version of feedom of thought and speech to reason, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani said in a statement on Monday.

In a provocative move, American pastor Terry Jones had officially declared that he would burn Islam's holy book of Quran on September 11 to show hatred towards Muslims.

Jones was forced to cancel his decision after he came under fire inside and outside the US for the offensive measure that brought millions of Muslims to the streets across the world.

"I urge all Muslim nations to foil the plots of [the West] through vigilance and have trust in the divine pledge that promises protection of the holy Quran," noted the statement.
