Iranian girl: Memorizing Quran requires perseverance more than talent

A teenage Quran memorizer says that in learning the Quran by heart talent is important but what matters more is perseverance.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A teenage Quran memorizer says that in learning the Quran by heart talent is important but what matters more is perseverance.

Haniyeh Barkhordari, from Iran’s central province of Yazd, is taking part in the final stage of Iran’s 47th National Quran Competition in the memorization of the entire Quran category.

She told IQNA that having talents is not enough in memorizing the Holy Book because one also needs to have diligence, continuity and perseverance.

Those who succeed in this field reap the reward of months or even years of efforts, she said.

Haniyeh said her mother first discovered her Quranic talent and sent her to a Quranic center at the age of 5.

She began memorizing the Quran in earnest at the age of nine.

Asked whether the time she spends in memorizing the Quran has prevented her from doing other activities, she said that is not the case at all because she only spends two to three hours a day for learning the Quran.

She said reading the Quran gives her calm and peace as well as profound feeling of joy as the words of the Holy Book are light in essence.

Hinayeh quoted one of her teachers as saying that one should read the Quran to gain peace and gift peace to others as well.

She noted that she also reads Nahj al-Balagha and Sahifeh Sajjadiyeh in her spare time.

Haniyeh further said that she would like to spend more time on learning Quran interpretation and contemplating the Holy Book.

The final round of Iran’s 47th National Quran Competition is underway in the northwestern city of Tabriz.
