Lebanese Cleric: Holy Prophet best role model for Muslim Unity

A senior Lebanese cleric described the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as the best role model for unity in the Muslim Ummah.

Ahlulbayt News Agency:  A senior Lebanese cleric described the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as the best role model for unity in the Muslim Ummah.

Speaking to IQNA News, Sheikh Zuhair al-Jaid, the general coordinator of Al-Amal al-Islami Front in Lebanon, said that in the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), one can see that anyone who embraces Islam is treated very well even if he is an unbeliever in heart.

He noted that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) even did not treat the hypocrites otherwise as long as they said they were committed to La Ilaha Illa Allah and Muhammad Rasul Allah  (There is none worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is the messenger of God).

Asked about practical ways to strengthen Islamic unity, Sheikh al-Jaid said there should be efforts to build bridges to overcome differences and promote cooperation in the Muslim world.

He said the current Fitnas (seditions) in the Muslim world have been created by enemies and in order to eliminate them and confront challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah today, there needs to be Muslim unity.

The recent events in the region, especially the aggression on Palestine and Lebanon makes it more necessary to boost Islamic unity, he stated.

Therefore, strengthening Islamic unity is important not only in order to remain committed to the Book of God and the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) but also from a political point of view, the cleric added.

He also hailed the International Islamic Unity Conference, which was held in Tehran last week, and said during the conference, Shia and Sunni figures and scholars sat next to one another without any discord and demonstrated their unity.

“We can eliminate the Fitnas in the Islamic unity by emphasizing our commonalities,” he stressed.

The 38th Islamic Unity Conference was held by World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in the Iranian capital Tehran on September 19-21.

More than 200 prominent religious figures from across Iran and Islamic countries attended the three-day event to exchange views on the latest developments in the world of Islam, with the issue of Palestine remaining as the focal point of the debates.
