Sweden to deport anti-Islam provocateur, migration office says

Swedish authorities have decided to deport an Iraqi national who desecrated copies of the Holy Quran in public protests during the year.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Swedish authorities have decided to deport an Iraqi national who desecrated copies of the Holy Quran in public protests during the year.

Salwan Momika, who had residence and work permits in Sweden, will be expelled from the country on April 16, according to Jesper Tengroth, a spokesperson for the Migration Office.

He told TV4 that Momika had made false statements in his applications for the permits. He also said that Momika would be banned from entering Sweden for five years.

Momika is expected to appeal the decision and take the case to the migration court.

Tengroth, however, added that there is an "obstacle to enforcing the deportation," saying that Momika may be subjected to punishment in his home country, Iraq.

He sparked outrage when he burned a copy of the Quran outside the Turkish Embassy in Sweden on June 21. He repeated the act a week later outside a mosque in Stockholm during Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic religious festival.

Since then, he has repeated the desecration in numerous events in various cities of Sweden, the latest of which was on October 21 in Stockholm.

Sweden, along with Denmark and the Netherlands, has faced widespread condemnation for allowing public desecration of the Quran under police protection.
