AhlulBayt News Agency: Denmark has revised its proposed bill to ban Quran burnings as a series of Quran desecration events in the Nordic country in the past months received strong backlash from Muslims across the world.
The government said it wanted to ban the desecration of Islam's holy book, which has angered Muslims in other countries and threatened Denmark's security.
"The bill has been narrowed to specifically target improper treatment of scriptures of significant religious importance," the justice ministry said in a Friday statement.
The bill was initially planned to cover objects of significant religious importance.
The Danish parliament, the Folketing, will debate the bill on November 14.
Some Danish groups and politicians opposed the first draft of the bill, saying it was like a blasphemy law that Denmark had scrapped in 2017.
Police and judicial officials also worried that it would be difficult to enforce.
"With the changes we are now proposing, the law will be easier to navigate -- including for the police and the courts," Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said in the statement, noting that the terrorist threat against Denmark had increased.
